Thesis Paintings
This thesis is a discussion of the process of creating preliminary drawings and the final paintings. These paintings were an
exercise in expanding my vocabulary from the painting of single individuals to the interaction of two people. I used two
different methods to understand how artists have painted two figures. The first was to make a new painting based on a
composition of an earlier painting; the second was to make small drawings of interacting people from master works, and
create general categories based on the different interactions. These drawings created a personal filing system, which
informed my looking at interactions in everyday life, and simplified versions of them were incorporated in the paintings as
symbolic patterns.
